Beauty...hopes...and dreams...
It was a gorgeous day outside...and I was picking up an old friend that I really hadn't sat down with and had a good chit chat in maybe 12 years...
Wow how time flies by.  It seems like only yesterday...hehehe.  We had spoken to each other over the phone for the last few years, and Jacquie has managed at quick hello by coming into the bus depot.  But because of both of our busy schedules and the fact that she lives across the pond...trying to get a day off to chat and visit is near to impossible.

Jacquie phoned and mentioned she was coming over to the island to see her cousins art show, and did I want to come...we could go to the show, and then have lunch, and I could then drop her off at the ferry later.  Well Hell YES!! I could..
Waiting...waiting....
.thank goodness it was a Tuesday I have off.

I was excited I was going to see my friend and we could actually have a talk and play some catch up while she was here.  she told me she was bringing  her other friend who was coming to see the art show too...yiippeeeeeee!!!

My friend is not an early riser...but that was okay it takes me about 40 minutes to get into Sidney and to the ferries to go pick them up.  I am a stupidly early riser...especially when I have something to do...I was very happy to be seeing her again.

A bit of history of our friendship...
We have known each other since we were 19 years old...we are totally different...but the same in so many ways.
toe tapping still waiting...
She is tall...thin...and a very intelligent person...she can talk about anything (really anything).  She was always a little more reserved than I was.  I was the wild and free type...I had a brain I could talk about almost anything (except politics)...but I was into music...it filled my soul...it gave me freedom from worries...and it went straight to my soul...I could feel it right from the tips of my toes...straight out my head...it settled my energetic person like nothing could.  We both loved to dance, and we went to the night clubs on a constant basis.  The town we lived in was small town, so when we went out to the clubs, we already knew 90 percent of the people there.  It's was a time of expression, music, partying, and socializing.
Ooo they are here...the ferry has arrived...yiipeeee!!!!
It was a time of learning about ourselves, of experimenting, and just living.

We moved to Vancouver...then Jacquie moved back home.  I stayed in Vancouver.  We both met our partners...got married...got divorced...moved here and there and everywhere...we stayed in touch...out of touch...she got married again...I got married again...she was my maid of honor at my wedding...they moved from Vancouver..I stayed on the island..her and her husband moved back to Vancouver...I am still here and have since divorced:)  That is the really short version...

We have kept in touch off and on during the years...so for me this was a great day because we could catch up again and re-establish a friendship that was important to me.
Lynn and my friend Jacquie...

So I drove out to the ferries and waited...and waited...yes I was early but the day was beautiful...and it gave me a chance to think about all of the stuff we had been through...through the years.

Yiipppeeee she was here...Sidney is not that far away from the ferries and her cousins art show was by the Anacortes ferry in Sidney.
So away we went to the art show...Wow!!! it was fantastic...her cousins name is Janet Etter...and her paintings are awesome.  She does tugboat and marine life (mostly of Victoria's inner harbour)...She says Tugs reflect honesty, emotion, and strength.  She says she feels a deep need to record what is left of our rapidly changing waterfront and disappearing lifestyles before they are lost forever.  she talks about how the marine life around the inner harbour all work together for a common cause.
Pose for a picture please...
..like fishing.  the paintings are beautiful...I love so many of them.
It was great to meet her...Janet has done many things I am told...she wanted to learn how to knit...but just not knit, she wanted to learn from the beginning...first she went to Scotland to learn about how to make the wool from the start, then knit...(okay sounds simple, but it much more involved than I am explaining).  She is a character...and has as much energy as I do (hehe).  She is always on the go, and doing art show everywhere.  she has a website www.janetetter.com or she has blogs at janetetter.wordpress.com.

So art show done...and I am getting hungry so away we went into Sidney for lunch.  We found this place by the water so we could eat...chat...
Oppps need to take another one...
and look out to the ocean.  A lovely restaurant...great food...and good conversation.  Jacquie's friend Lynn (I think)...was a funny lady, and Janet was going to join us later.  Ooooo the menu had many great choices and I was having a hard time making up my mind.  I finally chose some kind of vegetable dish...without rice...and when it came it looked hardly enough for a bird to eat...I knew I should have chosen the halibut :):  but it was good.  We then had this huge piece of triple chocolate cake....oooooooo the most awesome chocolate cake I have had in a long time...some because it tasted good...and some because it was good to share and chat to old friends. We sat there for a few hours ate...and played catch up on some things.  Wow it was great to catch up.
Hahahah Muff and Jeff!!!
..it was good to have my friend there...(live in person)...and just talk about so many things.  It is amazing how much you have missed out on in a persons life when you don't see them that often.   But it was good to see her...watch her laugh, hear her voice, all the mannerism's you don't see when you sitting in front of a one dimensional computer.  It was good to feel a hug, and sit and chat about our lives over the last twelve years.   I have always been a believer of sight, sound, and touch...all important in the real world to me. (this of course is only what is good for me to connect).

It was a fabulous day...I got to know a little more about her and she got to see a little about me.  funny you can talk to each other over the phone, or skype, or on msn, or in a letter.
Great to see you Jacquie...you look marvelous
...but you don't ever really connect till you see each other again.  I really enjoyed the day with her, and Janet, and Lynn...I got to re-connect with my old friend...and I made some new friends along the way.

To soon I had to drive her and Lynn to the ferries...
I said good-bye and was amazed at so much that I have learned about her and family again.  but also so much we didn't talk about.
Lot's to catch up on.

So I sat there that evening and thought about all the things some of my other friends who have so nicely published my thoughts of a very private nature...to a very public forum...I hate being talked about when the story is one sided...and very personal...but what the hell can you do. I also get a little bothered when people who have no clue of anything about you what-so-ever judge you (or make an opinion about you and don't know you) based only on what that one person says.
To the art show.....
(just a little one sided I think).   It's like the saying "You can tell more about a person by what they say about others than you can by what others say about them".  I am a very private person...but feel I have the right to my own defense being as how people feel they have the right to their own public opinion at my expense.

I love the internet, I love to connect to strangers...to learn about their culture, things they like to eat, things they do, their beliefs..what makes them laugh.  I love reading the great many stories...and see the many places people have been...so many beautiful places.  All the adventure, so much great information about hotels, good places, great places...all of the photos from around the world....Wow had really opened my eyes.
cool clouds...
..makes me dream of all the places I would love to see, expended my view and horizons...but I may never see...tis a marvelous thing.  The places I have seen through so many others eyes...are the best.  This venue is great...and informative...I love it.  But it is what it is...I can look at photos forever...and there are places I will never see (so thanks for sharing photos that I can see). What I am saying is unless I was to actually go to these places myself..unless I was to touch, see, and smell what I see on screen...I will never really know what it is really like unless I touch, see and smell it myself.
The same goes to the many fantastic people I have spoken to in this marvelous computer age. I can talk to these people for the rest of my life.
Sidney spit....
.on a very one dimensional computer screen, speak to them on skype, socialize with more than one person at once, you can multi-task...you get get any information you need...........but nothing and I mean nothing in this whole wide world...can ever compare to live human touch...smell...sight...or sound...NOTHING....(at least for me).  Yes I can sit and talk to you on skype, or msn, or the phone, we can email back and forth...and I can get to know some of who you are through all of these great tools....BUT....do I really know you...or you me....No of course not...how can you..you don't know me live, you don't really know exactly what I look like live...we all look different because we become three dimensional...not two.  It's is funny to me that so many movies want to come out in 3D.
We are here....
..we want to go see them so we can fell like we are already there...yes we spend so much time...living...socializing...and talking behind a one dimensional screen and say it is life? Is that a bad thing...No of course not!!!!!!...it's another venue...it's another way communicate...it's just another tool...But it is just that...You don't really know me, you dont know what i smell like...or how i look when i am laughing my head off (LOL)...that is all I am saying.  I believe it is good for those that choose this venue and feel it is the best for them...who the hell am I to judge...some only have this venue, some can't walk, some can't get outside, ...some only have this way...ans this give them pleasure and life... Computers have so many great tools and information for the world to now use:)  thanks Bill gates.
Janet's painting outside...
..hahahahahahahha

Anyways enough about that...I am sure I have a novel to talk about in my head...but this is supposed to be about travel I guess...just wanting to get on my pulpit for a minute...I get tired of shutting-up when others feel they need to make my private thoughts public.
After all that though...after seeing my friend and catching up...I still came to the conclusion I know nothing of what I see or hear on a computer unless I get to experience it live...in person...nothing better than a real hugs...hearing the voices whilst seeing their face...it is only then that I truly understand...nothing can replace the real deal.  It's kind like you see a photo of something that looks really good...but once you see it or touch it...it's becomes nothing like you imagined it would.
Like a juicy burger that looks good...takes like cardboard. It's like listening to Music on the computer...and feeling the beat..and seeing the band live...in front for you and feeling the beat and letting the music soothe you soul..or seeing a good opera live.....Oooo so awesome to experience....There is so much good for computer use...and there can be so much bad and hurtful things about them...but you have to weed through the good and the bad in all daily life don't you...??????

I loved and enjoyed my day with my friend so much...well I am going for a visit this week to catch up some more.  I have spend many years hiding behind things..not really getting out and socializing...that I am learning once again...to get out and go see things.  I must also stop hiding behind things, get out and about and meet people in person.
I am very shy and I really find it hard to get out there and meet people.  Yes tis far easier for me on this computer to chat.  I can sit and think about what I want to say, it is easier for me to hide behind it.  but slowly but surely I am finding if I force myself to get out...that it is way more fun than sitting at home wishing I was doing something else.

Spring is here...the sun is out...and so I must be.  there is a warmth in the air, flowers to see and touch and take photos of?
Spring and summer is the time people get out..and breathe the fresh sea air...and go out and play....
Yipppeeeeeeee!!!!!

Things to be happy about
Yes many great friends virtual and live....
The computer age...but I must get off my butt

Life...love...and laughter...
Music in my soul that only I can hear...............

Thanks to old friends...an art show...and best chocolate cake ever.................
Wonderful day.....great memories...great lessons I have learned...I am humbled :)
