From Malahat to Campbell River...a family visit to home.....
September 6, 2008
Wow I was going home to visit Ma, Pa, my sister and brother. My daughter and her husband were going to Campbell River to go to a wedding and because I had not seen them since last year I figured I would kill a few stone with one visit within a 24 hour period of time.
Campbell River is about three hours north of Victoria.
I don't go home that often (less than I should), and it usually is only for one day. I work too much and leave very little time for play. I need a time management course I think. :)
So I had this plan, the weekend was beautiful, so I headed out early in the morning. The whole trip take about 2.5 hour to 3 hours driving if you go non stop, and only if you go through the inland highway. This highway is just that, for driving you do not see much. ..so I figured I would take a few hours and go down the old Island highway, which takes the ocean route and through a few places like Parksville, Rathtreavor beach, Nanaimo, Union Bay, Courtenay, and home to Campbell River.
So I saw the opportunity for some pictures, a wee bit of history, stopped in a few places I had not been since my teenage years.
I visited with a few friends of mine on the way down, phoned my girlfriend (since I have know since elementary school), got a quick visit in with her, stopped in visited Mom and Dad, then stayed at my sister's place for the evening. It was all really nice to catch up on the gopssip. My Mom got herself an old computer so she can play games on it (grin), she is very happy.
The day was hot, and I got to walk the beach a bit, visit with friends.
I got to see my daughter on Sunday morning and we all headed up to Miracle Beach, what an awesome day. The sun was hot, the kids got to play in the sand, so did I.
But before I knew it, it was time to head home.
The visit was short and sweet. My daughter had to start heading home (she lives on the mainland a 14 hour drive) as she had to work Tuesday and I had to work on Monday.
But I learned some about the island that I had not seen in some time, enjoyed the drive, took the time to relax and just enjoy the days.
I was sad to go....but I know I will be happy to see them all again next year.
So come along for the ride and enjoy all the views........
