The day i went to jail...
When i wanted to book the tour it was already full so i got a ticket for next day´s first departure. It costed $24 and it was really worthed.
We boarded the ferry on the Pier, the ferries have a snack and drink service on board. I went up on the sun deck despite the cold and wind, but it was another clear day so i didn´t want to miss the views.
A 20 min trip take us to Alcatraz Island, home of the Federal Prison where no one could ever scape. The worst criminals were put there and although there were several scape intents no one survived because they were either catched a few hours later, they died on the water or they just dissapeared. The water in the Bay is very cold that is why no one can swim all the way to the closest shore in mainland.
It´s very interesting to see a jail from inside and the audio tour was excellent. Once you get to the islands you can stay there all the time you want and come back on any available ferry.
