By the time we got back to the hotel mother was already stressing about the lack of guests that had arrived. Lloyd and Rebecca were here sipping wine in the garden terrace but aside from that no one else seemed to have turned up.
Despite everyone agreeing that people were probably taking their time with the journey now that the weather had turned really nice this didn’t stop her from jumping up every time she heard a car and rushing round to see who it was.
Obviously most people were already there but she had failed to see them so as usual the stress was for nothing!!
After a couple of glasses of the hotels own Riesling people began to drift into the hotel, much to my mothers chagrin. Her next level of stress was that we were booked into the restaurant at and no one would be ready…
Obviously came and everyone who should have been there was duly arriving at the Gelbes Haus as instructed so once again the stress was somewhat unhelpful.
Most of the wedding guests had arrived during the course of the day and Rebecca and Lloyd had invited their respective families for a meal as an opportunity to catch up and get to know new faces.
An enjoyable evening was had as we sat on the terrace, and watched the massive barges plough up and down the Rhein whilst sipping yet more wine and devouring our meals. Unfortunately for me the vegetarian options were few and far between so I wasn’t as heartily filled as everyone else!
Later in the evening we decamped back down to the river where yet more guests were gathering at the Weinprobiertstunde for guess what… more wine!! I don’t think the people serving at the stand had ever seen the numbers of people who had descended on them and happily served way past their allotted closing time as the tills continued to ring late into the warm summer night.
