If your traveling to Thailand you will stay or pass through the capital city, Bangkok (Krung Thep). It a huge city with so much to see and do, on a budget or being extravagant, you will have a great time! I live on Sukhumvit soi 71, Phrakhanong. Its a great place with easy connection on the Skytrain (elevated above the streets) or MTR (subway) to other areas of the city. Public transport is cheap and clean on these services, open till midnight. The taxies are even cheaper if your traveling in a group of 3 or 4 but the traffic is mad. You can wait at a red light for up to 10 mins! Tuk Tuks are a rip off usually, they charge twice as much as a taxi and you get to breath in all the pollution.... but there fun! never pay more then 200 THB to any destination and refuse any stops.
The drivers like to take you to there friends shops to earn extra commission, just bargain with them before hand. If they dont give you what you want, walk away and dont waste your money.

I talk to many travelers here and those who tell me they hated the city all stayed in the Khao San rd. Its a tourist hell hole! Busy busy busy, bars bars bars, Buy Buy Buy! Its a great place to pick up cheap bus tickets and a night out, but i would advise against staying there. The accommodation is cheap but bad quality, full of cockroaches and dirty. For the same price you can get much better quality accommodation on the Sukhumvit rd or near by. Please send me a message if you need help finding a good place to stay in your budget. There is so much to choose from and 99% doesn't look anything like the pics on their website! If you dont want to be disappointed when you arrive, please contact me.

Places to see and things to do... Well it all comes down to who you are and what you like. Personally, i would advise to see Jim Thompsons house, The Grand Palace, Wat Pho (reclining budda temple and massage temple), and connect them all with a boat trip down the river. Once again, the rest of your time here is spent doing what you want to do so please contact me with any questions and I can help you plan a Bangkok trip :) Shopping, drinking, eating, clubbing, markets, temples, people watching, gogo bars, lady boys, electronics... There is a lifetime of things to do here...

I hope this quick blog has helped you, if not please send me any questions. If i dont know i will find out for you :)

Maybe see you soon in the land of smiles :D
