Taj Mahal, WOO HOO!!!
February 18, 2008
So I'm here, sitting in my hotel room in Bangalore, India after just getting back from an AMAZING and ADVENTUROUS day trip up to Delhi and then onto Agra to visit the Taj Mahal. This was a CRAZY last minute decision...how last minute? How about "just going to the airport and buying our plane tickets to Dehli only 2 hours before the flight left," last minute, haha. But yeah, with only a couple days left here in India, and for the past 2 weeks we've only seen Bangalore, a few of us decided we couldn't leave India with out seeing the Taj. We never new when we would ever be back so we decided we just had to do it. So my friends Alex, Nadia, Esia and myself left our hotel here at 2:15am went to the airport, bought tickets for the 5:50am flight to Delhi (2 1/2 hour flight), and then had a driver waiting for us at the Delhi airport to take us on the 5 hour drive up to Agra.
WHAT!?! Did we get on the wrong flight!?! And let me just say that drive was a CRAZY experience. Here's the run down. We left Delhi and on the way to Agra we see numerous cows, camels, herds of goats, and what ever else kind of farm animals you can think of just chillin on the side of the road. Then about an hour into the drive we witness an old man on a scooter fall of his bike and roll under an oncoming Tuk Tuk. Luckily the man had on a helmet and just got up, got back on his scooter and drove off, WHAT!?! Ok so then after that we almost get into 2, that's right 2 head-on collisions because some locals decided that wanted to drive the wrong way on the wrong side of the road. Luckily our driver Rahul had like some kind of crazy stunt driver skills, slams on the breaks (tires squealing) zigs & zags like we're in a car chase scene of a movie and saves all our lives from the oncoming morons!!!! THANK YOU RAHUL!!!! And that's not the worst of it folks.
Driving from Delhi to Agra We actually witnessed (unfortunately) a dog EXPLODE directly in front of us. That's right it was horrible!!! So, this pore dog tries to cross the road, as Esia sees it from the front seat and says "Ah, puppy," just as a HUGE truck comes right by us and BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!! The puppy was no more. It was HORRIBLE, and I had to look away the second I saw it happen. It was the most disgusting thing I had ever witnessed. But anyways, on a happier note after 5 hours we eventually made it to the Taj, YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! We spent about 4 hours marveling at this amazingly beautiful "Wonder of the World." Photos and videos just can NOT do it justice. I never imagined I would ever be standing right in front of this massive achievement in architecture but there I was actually getting to touch it. It was INCREDIBLE!!!!!
