Avalanche lilies, one of my favorite wildflowers. They grow in such great profusion they literally look like an avalanche coming down the mountain. They grow on one of my favorite places I go hike any time I can. They are a hardy plant, yet look so delicate. If you pick them by the time you get home they start to wilt, then you just stick them in a glass of water and viola they come alive and smell divine.

Avalanche lilies.

I love these great hardy wildflowers that looks so delicate...yet so strong.  They grow up into the mountains, along alpine meadows, down hills...an awesome site.  I love the smell..not to strong but delicate.

When the snow melts high in the mountains, the Avalanche Lilies come out.  They are a sign of warmer weather.   They will seal your breath away when you come upon them in all their glory cascading down the hills...they look so happy...
