Manhattan Madness!
January 10, 2008
So its 8.30am and me and Bruno are rushing to get the train as he had to get to work, he tells me to get on a train and to get off at Fulton, and theres me thinking he was coming with me! so here i was alone in a huge city and crammed on a train and i mean seriously crammed having NO idea whatsoever where i was going or where Fulton was. I felt a bit disorientated and jet lagged and almost a little scared but i told myself to stop being silly, i mean im in an English speaking country, how hard can it be right?! i asked someone to tell me where Fulton was and he kindly showed me (something prominent that stuck out about New Yorkers was their kindness and willingness to help you out, iv probably not met such hospitable people in any other country iv visited before!) So I got off at Fulton and wandered round and got a coffee in a cute little shop in Lower Manhattan, the girl that served me realised i was British and told me all about how she'd just got back from studying in London and how much she'd loved it! I needed to get to SoHo so i started walking, i eventually ended up by the world trade center site by total accident, i turned a corner and suddenly it was there, it took me a minute to take it all in, the site is huge! there are fences all around so its difficult to see in and i only took 1 photo.
A very sad scene but the building work is encouraging and New York is back on its feet and better than before. I then hopped in a cab to get to SoHo as i got too lazy/achey to walk! The taxi driver didnt understand me at all, in fact he barely spoke english and he didnt say a word to me the whole time, i tried initiating conversation about New York but got no reply so i sat back and explored New York with my eyes. SoHo seemed incredibly chic and up-market, the galleries and shops are endless and amazing!
After my appointment in SoHo (by appointment i mean medical, not sexual or anything other related!) i wandered around SoHo which was way quiet and desolate and bought some clothes. Then i managed to end up on Fifth Ave and i got all excited and spent a teeny bit too much money. Fifth Avenue was bustling, thousands of people, you could hear music, horns blaring! After all that shopping and the early start the jet lag was catching up so i got a cab back to Bruno's. By the end of the day my independence had dramaticaly increased and i spent the next day alone in Manhattan again lost and just had a blast! :)
