Moxie Falls

Greenville Travel Blog › entry 4 of 25 › view trip summary

There doesn’t seem to be nearly enough info on this site around the paradise I used to live in --- Maine. Thought I would recycle some old photos and try to highlight a few of the numerous hiking opportunities available.

Moxie Falls

Moxie Falls - can you see me standing on the overhanging rock at the top (on the right. wearing a white shirt)?

Moosehead Lake in central Maine is a terrific region, chock full of great places to explore.  This is the biggest lake in Maine, and nearby is the ‘almost’ biggest falls in MaineMoxie Falls.  If you are around the Greenville area you should make it a point to head for Moxie.  It is a short hike back to the falls (requiring no special equipment) along an exceptionally pretty trail.  The falls is impressive and thunderous – about 90 feet high.

To reach Moxie Falls, take Rt. 15 south from Greenville to Upper Shirley Corners. Turn right into Shirley Village and go straight on this road for about twelve miles (the road turns to dirt), Turn left and go by the end of Moxie Lake, then take the first road to the right.  Go another 1-1/2 miles and you will see a well marked parking area at the trailhead on the right.  Don’t forget your camera and enjoy!
