Mokhotlong
I went all the way to Mokhotlong to take a quick look. This is the kind of remote place where you get this strong feeling of being in the middle of nowhere… But my objective was to go to Sani Pass and then to Kwazulu Natal back in South Africa through that border crossing. For that I had to go back a few kilometers along the tarred road until I reached the intersection with the dirt road going to the South-East.
I have to say that at first I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make it with a sedan car. I had asked the staff at the mine and they replied it should be fine… Anyway, I went ahead. At this road intersection I gave a lift to a local who was going back with his son to his home along that track. We couldn’t understand each other but were able to communicate with gestures and smiles. He was living in one of the last huts along the road.
After, the road climbed steeply to a pass at 3200m. The only other vehicle that I saw was a 4x4 that was going in the opposite direction.
