The Falls Day 2!
October 21, 2007
The second day I decided I wanted to go on Maid of the Mist! That was an awesome boatride that I got great shots of the American Falls and was taken into the center of the Horseshoe Falls! It was unbelievable! I had such a great time talking to other tourists on the boat. Standing near me was one lady from Cleveland, Ohio and two young men who were from Africa! We were all enjoying the ride and got pretty wet!
As we pull out of the Horseshoe Falls, I realize there is a sign for the Under the Falls tour. I decide to go on that tour as well! I had to walk all the way back over to the Horseshoe Falls since the Maid of the Mist is closer to the tourist street and American Falls. At first Under the Falls tour was just tunnels. I had not realized that once off the elevator I could have gone left and directly to the Horseshoe Falls. Basically, you end up standing a few yards above the water level and only a few yards away from the falls themselves! To say the least I was completely DRENCHED afterwards! I had thought I had gotten pretty wet on the Maid of the Mist but you get SOAKED on this tour. They give you the poncho's on both tours which do help some. Actually, the tunnels give some information about the falls history. There is a sign which shows how the water had eroded the Falls to what they are now. Also, another sign telling a story of a child surviving a fall over the Falls!
After both tours, I meet my friends back in the hotel room before we go to dinner. We decided to go to Hooters which is near our hotel. Wherever we go we end up having a Hooters near our hotel, so it's part of tradition that we have to go to dinner one night there. We end up having a very cool waitress who basically told the regulars that were dancing more than we were to come over and talk to us. We end up talking to 3 really nice and funny Canadians! Unfortunately since my camera got so wet from Under the Falls tour there aren't any photos of the guys:( So my last night in Canada was definitely fun:)

The weather in October was perfect to go onto the boat! It wasn't cold nor warm. Luckily they gave us a poncho to wear because you will get wet on this boat ride. The ticket booth is near the tourist strip on the Canadian side (and I think there is a boat leaving from the American side as well). Once everyone is on the boat, it brings you pretty close to the American Falls to get great pictures! You will see many rainbows during the ride. Part of the boat ride is to talk to the other tourists on the boat! Also, during the ride the captain is giving some history of the falls. Once most of the boat has pictures of the American Falls, they take you to the center of the horseshoe falls. It is very difficult to take many pictures from this point because of all of the mist. At this point you do get wet!

Journey behind the falls (which i called Under the falls in my blog) shows you the tunnels under the Horseshoe Falls. There are many signs showing the erosion of the falls to now, history of the falls, and some miracles of the falls (i.e. a boy who survived a fall from the falls). While going through the tunnels you can hear the roaring of the water. Also, there are openings where you see just a sheet of white! you can't see past all the water and the noise from the water is so loud!
Once off the elevator if you go left (right is the tunnels) you can go onto a platform which is mere yards away from the edge of the horseshoe falls! You are given a plastic poncho but you will get COMPLETELY wet. I have the best photos of the Horseshoe Falls from this platform!
