Our train trip for the Summer of 2008. The idea, the planning, the reservations, the booking, the travelling. I hope you will enjoy reading about my struggles and my excitement of this trip. Some of the countries we plan to visit: Starting ofcourse in the Netherlands, we have to go through Germany to the Czech republic, Slovakia, Hungary, probably Transsylvania (in Romania), Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and then heading back home again.

And then we entered Slowakia. Hardly noticeable that we were at the border, but our travel companion changed the sim card for his mobile phone, and we got an SMS from our provider telling us the tariff for calling to the Netherlands.

After the station of Turcianske Teplice our train had to go through some tunnels in the mountains and after being almost 8 hours on this train we arrived at the town of Banska Bystrica in the center of Slowakia.

The town had its glory time at the 16th century when it was the leading world producer of copper. From this period dates the clock tower with its lovely sound. Most picturesque buildings are at or near the Namestie SNP, which is the pedestrian zone in the town center, as well as there are a lot of restaurants and bars on this square.

DADKA says:
Hi Tineke, hope you enjoyed my town a little! It s a pity we didnt meet! I hope for the future...
