Day 1 on the Big Island - just lounging and resting

Wow, what an experience to sleep with nothing but the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks no more than 30 feet away outside. Actually, it was so noisy (to the point that several times during the night I thought the waves were going to come crashing through the house) that I had to close the two sets of sliding glass doors that lead out to the patio and close some of the windows. And talk about beautiful stars - you never see anything like it in the city.
Here's a link to the house we rented: http://www.vrbo.com/34465
All I can say is that the owners, Peter and Darla, went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. It was a fantastic location, easy to get to, and very centrally located to everything on the windward side of Hawaii. The house is also right next to Pahoehoe Beach Park that offers a great place to ride the waves. The beach itself is rather small but still fun. Saw a few honu (green sea turtles) here on different occasions.
Took the opportunity today to check out the city of Kailua-Kona and get settled since we are here for a week. Tons of great shops, art galleries, etc. Made trips to Costco for bulk food for meals, to Walmart for a preview of the souvenirs and just to ride around.
