Travel day from Atlanta, non-stop to Honolulu, connecting to Kona on the Big Island. Turned out to be quite a long day. Head winds in excess of 200 mph caused Air Traffic Control to route us over Idaho arcing over the Pacific to Hawaii. 11 hours total travel time to Homolulu block to block causing us to almost miss our connection in Honolulu to Kona. We ended up taking on maximum fuel in Atlanta and due to weight limitations the gate agents announced there would no room for any non-reving passengers or other pass holders (ID-90, etc). Feel sorry for all those non-revers that couldn't get on even though there were plenty of seats. Needless to say, there were other flights later in the day as well as to other gateway cities, so hopefully they all made it eventually.
I've found after several long haul flights that I begin to get impatient and restless around the 7th hour. Not sure if it's because I've already watched all the movies and listened to all the music stations on board, but at that point I begin to just stare facing front I'm so bored. We eventually made it to Honolulu after a bumpy ride most of the way. We couldn't wait to see what would happen to our bags once we got on the ground.
