Honolulu to Bangkok
January 23, 2008
United Airlines informed me I needed 2,000 additional miles to retain my premier status. I didn’t want to go anywhere on the mainland US because everywhere would be cold. A ticket to Bangkok was relatively inexpensive. Plus it would give me a chance to try out my new camera.
I flew to Bangkok via Tokyo. I had a five hour layover at Narita but I just hung out at the airport. The plane landed in Bangkok near midnight. After getting my luggage and exchanging a little cash, I went outside and grabbed a taxi. I was staying in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok.
The taxi pulled up to my hotel, The Landmark Hotel. It’s on Sukhumvit Road near the Nana BTS station. I had booked a lifestyle room. It had a separate living room from the bedroom and it included buffet breakfast, daily hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. I checked in at the top floor concierge since I was staying in a lifestyle room. He gave me my key and I went to my room. I was fairly tired and it was late, so I went straight to sleep.

A hub of activity
The Landmark Hotel is located in the Sukhumvit section of Bangkok, near the Nana BTS station. It's only a 2 minute walk to the station. I loved the proximity to the BTS station. The Marriott is 1 block away from the Landmark. Great location for walking around, dining, etc..
I booked a Lifestyle Deluxe Suite. It had a separate living room with sofa, desk and flat screen TV. The Lifestyle rooms had a lot of perks such as free buffet breakfast, hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, pressing of garments, personal concierge, and many others. I don't remember how much the room cost, but I think it was around $150 USD/night. Expensive for Bangkok but I think it was well worth the money.
There are several restaurants in the hotel. I ate at a couple of them and was very happy with the meal and service.
