Travelling by train to Xi'an, China ... January 7th - January 9th ... to quick!!
I can't believe I'm moving on to Xi'an now ... my Beijing 'experience' was to short :( ... but I am looking froward to Xi'an, China. I know when I get there I'll have little time to contact my friend, Gary, who I met 3 years ago in Economics at Laurentian University (Sudbury, Ontarion, Canada) ... now he's back home, in Xi'an, having just completed his 4 yr degree. I'm waiting for the train to arrive so that I can not only tour the famous landmarks of Xi'an, China but go out with my friend and meet his parents; being away from home so long, meeting anyone I've made close friendships with is so important to me!
I sit, patientiently waiting for each hour to pass in anticipation of the train ride ... it's been a long while since I took an over-night train trip. I think I was only 3yrs old taking the train from Moncton, New Brunswick (Canada) to Sudbury, Ontario (Canada) .
.. Of course during my wait I had to order a coffee and I watched some boys (at the next table) who were intently playing a card game ... suddenly 'tons' of people waiting for their trains would also look at the card game ... I wondered to myself, "what are they playing, especially with strangers watching ... what game is it" hmmm???Time to board the train ... me and my friend were given the bottom bunks, then 2 guys (we think they were Masters Graduates) bunked on the 2 top bunks ... We kept our cameras tucked around our arms and I had my passport safely with me ... it's different travelling at night and with others you don't know but we lucked out ... they only wanted to get to Xi'an also ... my friend said "better to be safe than sorry" (protecting our stuff)
We arrived early in the morning, not knowing where to go, we were greeted by our new tour guide for Xi'an, China ... she has a lot of energy!
