in Salt Lick, so much meat!!!

Yeah!!!! I made it! I made it! I was able to take my flight to Austin and even take a cup of coffee at Houston's airport with a guy from Chile and another one from Ecuador. Both of them waiting for their flights to other cities in the USA.

Anyway, I arrived to Austin and Huy picked me up from the airport. I met Huy through this site and I showed him and Mark around Lima when they were in Peru. So, this time I was the tourist and he was my guide ;) We weren't sure where I'd stay for my only night in Austin and went to the only one hostel he found. It looked average, nothing special.

Mmm, I haven't checked my email since I left Lima and didn't know anything about Chris.

Lake Austin
Other TB who I wanted to meet there. I just gave him a call and let him know I was in Austin with Huy looking for accomodation. He just said me, he has already solved that problem and sent me an email with the solution, hahaha. Huy talked to him and we drove to his place. After such a long flight full of adventures I just wanted to take a shower before starting knowing Austin. In the meanwhile Huy and Chris were just talking and they became buddies.

They told me I was lucky, because the day was sunny and warm. The days before were just cool and nasty. Hehehe, my good luck was coming back ;) We contacted Mark in order to meet and have lunch together. After the shower I felt so much alive and full of energy, just wanting to start the adventure. We went to Mark's place first and picked him up.

Then we went to a restaurant a bit far away from the city, but they serve amazing bbq and I was in Texas, so BBQ was the right thing to eat.

I was amazed that in that place they don't sell liquor because of the law. So, Mark brought beer he produces himself. The beer was really good. We enjoyed a great BBQ and spent a great time, just talking and making fun. It was great having been able to meet Huy and Mark in their hometown this time, and of course meeting a new friend too. Wow! We were full and was time to walk.

We went back to the city. We went to Mount Bonnel in order to get great views of the city, Lake Austin and Colorado River. They day was great, sunny and warm, but not hot! We were climbing and walking. I was wearing hills, but they guys took good care of the little peruvian girl.

Mark, Chris, Yadi & Huy at Gueros. The night is young...
It was great being able to be outdoors for a while and see so beautiful landscapes. The city is so well organized and what they did with the river, building lakes, is so nice!

After that we went downtown. I wanted to visit Texas Capitol. I wanted to do some historic tourism too.  The Capitol was really nice and Chris was telling me about the 5 Cout of Arms you can see in the Capitol. They belong to the 5 States once owned Texas. So, it was a cultural tour too. My 3 friends and me were just walking around and I was learning more about the American History.

We took a walk outside too and enjoyed the nice weather. But the day wasn't over yet. We had to plan the fun night, hahaha. I had 3 great hosts who will take care of me. So I couldn't be in better hands. Before going out we met at Chris' and went out for something to drink and warm out and also for something to eat. Well, the rest of the night you can read in the next entrance and further details in my Meeting Travbuddies blog, hehehe.

Yadira! They took you to the Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, TX! Isn't the Hill Country beautiful?!? Awesome! That is definitely some of the best bbque you can get anywhere. Good for them.
Where did you go downtown? Any pictures?
Mount Bonnel is right down the road from my highschool. We used to go drinking there at night to avoid getting in trouble!
Thanks for writing this, I'm really happy you had a good time in ATX!
