Sao Paulo Switch

One of the craziest things I saw on my visit to Rio happened at the beach in front of the Copacabana Hotel. As friends and I were walking along the beach front, we saw a big group of men marching, drilling and excercising -- all in black speedos. Turns out, it was a training class for new lifeguards. Every woman at the beach had her eyes locked on the training exercises -- and quite a few men too!

About and hour and a half before we landed in Sao Paulo, the flight attendants woke us for breakfast.  It was pretty simple -- hot tea, yogurt, and a croissant.  We landed at 8:05am local time (two hours ahead of Central Standard Time in Texas).

Sao Paulo's Airport is a typical concrete low slung building.  For some reason the airline clerk had only checked my bag to Sao Paulo -- not Rio, so I had to claim it as first entry into Brazil, clear customs and re-check it for Rio.  What a fun thing!  I hope my bag arrives in Rio when I do!

The flight on to Rio was on a Boeing 777.  I am told they use the larger plane here because they combine passengers coming to Rio via Sao Paulo from Miami and Dallas connections.  The Miami flight was delayed, so we were about an hour late in taking off.  The flight to Rio was only 45 minutes long, so not even enough time to get a drink!
