Peru was the first international trip of our sabbatical with highlights of trekking to Machu Picchu, Puno/Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon, a jungle visit and the Inti Raymi Festival in Cusco.

Heading Home

Next Destination - Thailand, Cambodia and Laos

After dinner in Lima, we hopped in a cab to the airport and boarded our 1:00am flight home which was completely uneventful and unmemorable arriving in LA around 7:30 in the morning.  We had no issues going through customs (hmm maybe I should have brought some Coca Leaves for tea) but the guy at immigration was pretty funny, asking us if we had any food or liquor.  I wasn’t really sure why immigration, not customs, was asking this, and Cindy said that we did have liquor (Pisco of course).  He told us to leave it with him and waived us on, what a comedian.

Now we have to figure out what is next - probably spend July here and visit family in Chicago and then we are talking about South East Asia in the fall.  Stay tuned….

Update July 21, 2006:  OK it is official, we have just booked frequent flyer flights to Bangkok (in coach no less!  What will Cindy do???) leaving August 21, 2006 and returning October 8, 2006 which should be in time for hopefully another journey on Paul and Jason's "almost mega-yacht" to Mexico.  Plans are to spend some time in Bangkok and then head up to Sukkothai (old capital) and Chiang Mai, then over into Laos and Cambodia and hopefully end up with some R&R in the southern islands of Thailand.  Woo Hoo!
