A view on Surfers Paradise from the area near Coolangatta

After reaching Surfers Paradise (and damaging the car by scraping a totally innocent pole…) we decided to take it easy for a day. Pretty hard to do that in Surfers, since there’s partying all night long, especially during Indy Car weekend. Not that we’re the real party types anyway, but the noises from outside easily invaded our hotel room. So not much sleep, which is hard when you’re our ages… ;-)

Anyway, the full day we spent in Surfers turned out to be a very relaxed one. After having a late breakfast we took a long stroll through the town to surprise ourselves about the insanely touristic atmosphere there. In the afternoon we made our way to the beach since the weather was still extremely good. We’re not normally the sun worshipper types, but when in Surfers, do as the locals!

We left Surfers the day after for our last drive north, we had to drop off our rental at Brisbane Airport before ten in the morning.

The border between QLD and NSW...it's one hour earlier on the left side...
So after getting up extra early and leaving Surfers equally early we somehow managed to miss the Pacific Highway which caused us to get nervous about missing the ten o’clock deadline. Things didn’t improve when we got stuck in a traffic jam near Brisbane. Now I’m used to getting stuck in traffic, but 40 kilometres is a bit much even for my standards… J

It took a lot of effort, but eventually we reached the airport. Unfortunately we got there half an hour late…or so we thought. We forgot about the one hour time difference between Queensland and New South Wales, meaning we actually had half an hour to spare. So no fine for us, except the one we got for damaging the car, lol…

Brisbane would be our home for the next few days, after that our island discovering was set to begin, starting with a stopover in New Zealand… J
