Waking up after a very long sleep...

After another long flight (again about ten hours) we finally arrived down under! We got through customs extremely tired, but relatively easy. One small thing, my buddy had to hand over his little jar filled with sand from Hong Kong (he collects samples in every country he visits, until now that is…).

The first day was mostly used freshening up and resting from travelling from one side of the world to the other side. The only thing worth mentioning is our visit to the Opera House. We could actually walk there from Big Hostel, where we eventually ended up staying. Despite our fatigue, the Opera House made a lasting impression on us both. We’ve all seen it on the pictures, but seeing it in person is something completely different.

On a side note…while we were admiring the architecture of the building, we were passed by Pim Verbeek, who is not only our countryman, but also the national coach of the Australian soccer team…

After a long rest we used our second day in Sydney to the fullest! We started off with a refreshing morning walk to Darling Harbour, where we enjoyed a nice breakfast.

It truly is a remarkable piece of architecture
After walking around the Harbourside shopping mall we crossed the harbour and walked past the Sydney Aquarium and Wildlife World (which we visited, but not on this day). The end of the morning brought us to the oldest part of Sydney, the colonial style The Rocks. Great views over the harbour, Harbour Bridge and the Opera House!

Since the weather started to improve again, in the afternoon we decided to take the ferry to Manly Beach, departing from Circular Quay. From the ferry you get a nice overall view over the city skyline. We enjoyed Manly a lot, wandering around the boulevard, buying sunscreen (losing it ten minutes later) and watching people having fun.

Back in the city we decided to revisit Darling Harbour for dinner, all the while pondering about the things we wanted to do on our last days in beautiful Sydney!
