Into the north Welsh mountains

This camp proves to be the cheapest one on our UK travels so far at £5 per night and it has a beautiful view.  When we arrived there was no one at the farm house to check us in so we just went on in and picked our spot.  Next day we see the owner and tell him of our arrival and that we would like to stay for 2 nights.  Following the neighbour's suggestion we drive down to the little steam railway station to catch a ride into Llangollen but the first train is not for another hour and we want to get in before mid-day.  As warned parking is impossible, the main street is closed for the grand parade but we park a fair way out of town and walk in.

Hearing drumming we find a band of youngsters from Malaysia and the crowds pack the road to watch their performance.

Find out that the actual main venue is over a bridge and along a bit and up into a dedicated site.  It is the 60th eistedford so we buy our tickets at the gate and head in.  The first stage we come across is about to have a Welsh Boder Morris side do their thing.  The are called "Clerical Error" and it is the stuff that I do back in Canberra.  The squire has a marvelous Welsh red dragon on his back, they have a black Welsh bull called Gwilliam who misbehaves amongst the crowd.  During their 4 sets they perform many dances, some are the variations of ones we do, a Mummers play and several jokes.  Also noteable are the Barber Shop Choir of about 40 women dressed in long ice blue, strapless evening dresses of satin.  The MC describes them as having said that they are stunning and that there is a guessing comp to see if anyone can tell which one of them drank four Stellas before going on stage!  The are excellent singers and amusing.

We have a packed lunch with us but decide to have it for dinner and purchase an Indian meal from one of the stalls for a big lunch.  A great day at the eistedford and we head back to collect our van.  Can't get the 50p showers to work so have a basin wash instead.
