Red Rock Canyon
November 3, 2007
We were in Las Vegas for the weekend for a Marine expo...Pretty strange having a Marine & Boat show in the desert...haha! I didn't have to work until Sunday so we planned a day trip into Red Rock Canyon. We rented a Jeep and rolled down the top for the drive out that morning. It was a pretty cool morning but we didn't mind, we wore our jackets and wanted to enjoy the open air. We arrived a short time later at the visitor's center and went in to look around at their information about the canyon and pick up a couple of maps of the area. We started our day driving along the scenic road through the canyon, stopping to snap some shots along the way. At one of our stops we could see loads of people following some trails and climbing some of the rock faces along the road.
Had it just been my wife and I in the car, we would be among those people climbing up, but the other couple we were with weren't so adventurous. We stopped again further on and parked in a large parking lot near a hiking trail that took you out to Turtlehead Peak. There we decided to do at least a little bit of exploring. We climbed as high as we could in the area near the parking lot and enjoyed the view from above. It was definitely the highlight of our day:) We continued driving through the canyon stopping again briefly along the way until we reached the end and headed back. We stopped at the Red Rock Casino just on the outskirts and enjoyed a great buffet and free champagne with every meal. That was the second highlight of the day...haha! We will definitely return soon, only this time we will go on our own and explore a LOT more!
