US Coast Guard Demo and Tour with BAYWATCH HAWAII Cast, Honolulu Harbor, Hawaii
May 22, 1999
Yes, we got special access to see the US Coast Guard water rescue demonstration with the Baywatch Hawaii cast in Honolulu Harbor. A Chief Petty Officer who went to our church in Aiea worked at the USCG District 14 Headquarters building on Sand Island so we were granted a special-access tour. We inspected the HH-65 Dolphin Helicopter close-up and were introduced to the aircrew and pararescuemen. We also got to tour the USCG cutter and patrol craft. Overall, it was interesting to get to see the Coast Guard in action, especially before 9/11. We have a lot of respect for our Coasties--they have tough jobs every day all year round, especially in Hawaii. Patrolling, boarding ships, intercepting drug runners, accidents (of which Hawaii has a high percentage of accidents) and other tasks throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
