Coco Garden Resort Okinawa

Okinawa Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I hope to complete a Travel Blog showing all the pictures of the places my wife Jenny and I have lived and visited since we bought our first computer when we lived in Hawaii in 1998. We've spent most of that time travelling around the globe and I've spent many hours organizing all the digital pictures. Hopefully, TravBuddy will be a way to show off all the places we've expereinced in the world. The picture of us is taken from our balcony on the East China Sea in Nakadomari, Okinawa.
Affordable hotel with free rental car usage within military PCS rates
When we were saddened by the news that we have to move away from Okinawa and the Renaissance Okinawa Hotel was full, we were advised to saty at CoCo Garden Resort Okinawa. CoCo Garden is located on the inland hills of central Okinawa's Uruma City and is not near the beach. We are glad we made our choice to stay at CoCo Garden for our Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move because the price was within the government/military per diem rate and they gave us usage of a free rental car for 4 hours a day to run those last minute errands and attend outprocessing appointments after we (thankfully) sold our 2 cars.

CoCo Garden is a spa hotel with a pool and nearby golf course. We were even treated to a poolside concert by a Eisa Drummer and Dancing group one evening that was a fantastic send-off full of Okinawan culture. The food at the Makanmakan Chinese Dim-Sum Restaurant was delicious and the bar had great wines with a view!

The one drawback with Coco Garden Resort is that we were the only Americans staying there and they really cater more to the Japanese tourists. The front desk knows English but we had to do our share of "pointy-talkie" to communicate with some of the other staff. The website is also only in Japanese which can be a challenge for some Americans.

The hotel is only a 2-story multi-building structure, not a high-rise as with most resorts in Okinawa. It is comparatively spread out, which is rare for the limited land available in Okinawa which is only 12 by 66 miles in size, about the same size as Oahu, Hawaii but elongated in shape.

All-in-all we're glad we stayed at CoCo Garden Resort during our last days living on Okinawa!
