Memorial Day Missing Man Formation (Helicopters) over Punchbowl National Cemetery, Hawaii
On Memorial Day 1999, we positioned ourselves above Punchbowl National Cemetery via Round Top Drive. The sunset view was spectacular and we were actually higher than the helicopters oveflying Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific & The Honolulu Memorial. Round Top Drive is a little know secret to get up to the west-facing Mauka Mountains to watch the sunet. I also took a night photo of the B-25 Mitchell on Hickam Air Force Base at the Memorial Air Park.
Directions to get up the 10-mile drive to Round Top:
From Waikiki go to Ala Wai Blvd (1-way only) and make a right onto Kalakaua Ave. Then turn left on S. Beretania (1-way only). Make a right onto Keeaumoku and cross over the H1 freeway. Make a right onto Wilder and then a left onto Maikiki. Go up until you see Round Top Drive. If you continue on Round Top Drive it will turn into Tantalus. If after driving through Round Top/Tantalus you want to go to Punchbowl Memorial go across Auwaiolimu and make a right on Puowaina Drive and then follow the signs.
The address for Punchbowl Cemetery is:
The National Memorial Cemetery Of The Pacific
& The Honolulu Memorial
