Texas

Five years ago my mother moved to The Woodlands in north Houston, Texas when she remarried. She has been going through some difficult and stressful times this past year so on a whim, my husband and I decided to take her on a vacation. We had been on our first cruise in October of 2007 (Mediterranean) and really enjoyed it. After telling my mom about it, she was also interested in trying out a cruise, especially because it was such an "easy" vacation. You can do as much or as little as you like. You only have to unpack once and you wake up in a new port almost on a daily basis.

We found a cruise leaving from Galveston, almost a 2 hour drive from her house. Royal Caribbeans' Voyager of the Seas, one of the largest ships in the world, was sailing to Mexico and Honduras. We jumped on the opportunity to try it out!

On Sunday, we drove to Galveston and after parking the car, went through check in. Needless to say, my mom was so excited to be trying out her first cruise!

I will be honest and say Galveston is not my most favorite place in. There are too many oil rigs and refineries for my taste, but as we sailed out of our port, the sun was setting and we managed to take a few beautiful shots of the city as the sun was setting behind it.
