Kyrykhoum dessert between Khiva and Bukhara

"A priest and a Uzbek bus driver die and go to St. Peter, whom will decide who will go to heaven and who will go to hell. St. Peter decides that the Uzbek bus driver will go to heaven. The priest is outraged because he has served his entire life for God and the Uzbek bus driver has chased women and was always drunk. St Peter explains to the priest that while you were praying the others were sleeping and while the Uzbek bus driver was driving the others were praying."

Uzbek bus drivers can be best described as licensed mad man, at first I thought that in Uzbekistan they were driving on the left but it just happened to be the best part of the road. After some time and experience with Uzbek bus drivers you scramble to get a seat in the front as it is the most comfortable place in the place.

The roads are in overall poor condition and very bumpy. Our two drivers happened to be the "poster boys" for Uzbek bus drivers, always speeding and trying to navigate through the many potholes in the road with 120 km/h with a tour bus.

After a very long and tiring bumpy road we arrived in Bukhara and at first glance it looks the same as Khiva as there are again beautifull mosques and medrassas but upon closer look you'll see many differences. The touristy things aren't as close as in Khiva but the details of the mozaics are most more rifined and richer. I paid 1000 Som to climb the watch tower in front of the Ark this was a Soviet era construction and it showed. The bolts and nuts were very rusty and the minarHalfwet staircase was anchored by steel threads. Some threads were knitted around the stair in stead of being attached with bolts and nuts.

Halfway I lost my water bottle and I looked down to see it oblitirate on the stone floor, just a reminder to be carefull. The view on the top of the watch tower wasn't that great and I prepared myself to go down.
