Travelling to Chiang Rai

After breakfast in the gueshouse I packed my bags and went to the busstation. There I bought a ticket on a first class bus to Chiang Rai. The trip was only three hours. In the bus I came across the Swedish guy (Ted) I met in Lopburi. In Chiang Rai we both went to the same guesthouse. I'm now staying in the cheapest room so far (200 Baht/night). It all looks really old and worn, but it seems clean.

Together we went out to have lunch. Then he went back to rest and I tried to find a place where I could book another trekking. I went to the Akkha river house which, according to the Lonely Planet, organises great trekkings, but they couldn't help me. I was tired of walking around so I found an internet cafe where they serve great coffee while you use the internet (Connect Cafe).

In the evening I met up with Ted again to have dinner. We went to the Chiang Rai night market. We sat down at a place where there were only tourists, because we didn't want to walk around too long. When we walked on we found another square that looked a lot better (mostly Thai people there) so tomorrow I think I'm going there to eat.

The walk on the night market was great, but it was crawling with people so we decided to look for a bar to relax and have a beer. We found a place called "the teepee bar" which was great. The barkeeper/owner is a Thai looking like a hippie. The bar has an area where you can sit on pillows on the ground and has a great atmosphere and good music. There was a group of Australians there that were doing a group tour and four English girls that were doing voluntary work at the Akkha hill tribe villages. I had a great night with these people and it was 02:30 when I finally returned to the guesthouse.
