Sunday afternoon in a lil Historic SouthWest town
On the outskirts of Las Cruces is a little community called Mesilla. It is too small to call it's own town but it is an enchanting place during the summer weekends.
We discovered this place one afternoon on the weekend when I was actually off and this place, Mesilla is where i first fell in love with New Mexico. It is 'Land of Enchantment'
In the middle of the town area is a square with the Old Catholic Church set by. The two restaurants there are my favorite, La Posta and ..( my short term memory loss is kickin in , i apologize i will remember the names in a few hours as i think and set on it ). Then there is the old jailhouse, which once held the infamous outlaw Billy the Kid. I find stuff like this facinating and I did do research on the place as I was staying around the area. Do your own!!!
I enjoyed the lil shops and the charming shopkeepers and I love the Butter Pecan ice cream from the ice cream shop there too!! It became my new favorite flavor and ive been a chocolate lover forever...
As you walk around the area you find these beautiful stucco type homes and I had the courage to walk up and inquire on the history of one homeowner's house as she was having a rummage sale. She talked with me for and hour about the house being owned by the town sheriff arounf the late 1800s ( maybe he had locked Billy the Kid himself?!) I love it out there. Only wish had the time to explore more of these towns...i really am a yuppie!!!
There are dozens of small boutique shops, native american trinkets, The old Billy the Kid shop that once housed the infamous outlaw himself. There are restauarMy favorite restaurants and bars around the Plaza. My favorite bar/restaurant is El Patio, I like sitting outside on a weekend with nachos and Dos Equis and chat with friends. Its also a good spot to people watch too.
The Historic plaza is good place to catch on the weekends, particulary between 1130am- 2pm. They have the vendors around the Plaza Square, I would say this place is interesting for tourists but also a place to relax!

I have eaten here several times during my 10 month stay in Cruces. The building looks like a setting for a Western movie. Upon entering inside, your world is transformed into an elegant southwest experiance! There is a fountain in the middle of the waiting area along with a huge cage of Birds! Parrots, Cock-a-toos..
I tried the mexican ribs, it was different for me because I ordered sumthin besides standard tacos, burritos. ( C'mon people there is more to a culture of food besides Taco Hell..)
There is also a cantina, that is worth taking photos but i was probably too tipsy to do so : )
Worth a stop if in the area, it'll have you talking even after leaving! perfect for a sunday afternoon
