Bled Castle in the past:
Probably the first Romanesque tower of castle stood there since 1004, when the German Emperor Henrik II gave the Bled estate to Bishop Albuin of Brixen as a gift. Tower was protected by walls facing the slope of the castle hill.
In the late middle Ages more towers were built and improved. Castle got his today appearance in Baroque period when other complexes were built. These are situated around two courtyards: the lower one containing outbuildings and the upper one with residential area. The two courtyards were connected with a staircase.
On the upper courtyard is also a chapel dedicated to the Bishops St. Albuin and to St. Ingenium. It was built in the 16th century. Later it was renovated in the Baroque style around 1700 and painted with frescoes.
