The flight to Punta del Este from Buenos Aires Aeroparque Nacional took all of 35 minutes. My friend Juanpi and I took longer lining up in immigration (40 minutes) and waiting for the plane to take off (one hour).
It was a quick 10-minute taxi ride from the airport to Hotel Casapueblo in Punta Ballena which is about 15 kms from Punta del Este.
I booked the hotel since I saw it on Samantha Brown's Passport to Latin America on the Travel and Living Channel. Situated on a hillside and painted all white with hardly a right angle in any part of hote structures, it offered a great view of the ocean and especially the setting sun over the Atlantic. Between 830-900PM hotel guests sit on their room balconies and non-hotel guests congregate at the restaurant viewing deck to watch the setting sun. Claps from the vieweres could be heard as the sun disappears across the Atlantic horizon.
The hotel complex also houses the permanent exhibition and workshop of artist Carlos Paez Vilaro. Check out the hotel website below. (Pictures to follow soon!)
