This blog details the 4 months I spent in Indochina in the summer of 2008. I spent the first 2 months volunteering in My Tho in southern Vietnam. I then spent 2 months travelling Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos & Thailand.

Pulling on the boots!

I had my first non-alcohol related lie in for some time for no reason other than i could. The weather was not what it has been since I arrived on the island, it was far too windy to sit on the beach so I decided to explore. I put on my walking boots and armed with a map I spent the entire day walking to the various sections on the island stopping for a coffee every hour or so. To get anywhere you generally have to walk up the mountain in the middle of the island and back down  the other side, the cooler weather made this a lot more bearable. Some of the views were spectacular but for some reason my camera has decided to stop working much to my annoyance! The sun did however creep out at one stage and i ventured into the sea for 20minutes.

In the evening I ate dinner at a fairly busy bar as it had a large projector screen set up and was showing 'The Aviator', a film I had always wanted to but never seen. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it ran for well over 2 hours and filled my whole evening. I wandered back to the hotel around 11pm but thanks to my lie in could not sleep and as a result lay reading till around 2am. Just as I was drifting off a fight of some sort erupted in one of the rooms on my floor and for the next 15 minutes I had to listen to two young lads, one Irish, one English yelling at the top of their voice that they were going to kill each other. I chose not to get out of bed to investigate but was more than grateful when a hotel employee arrived and although 10 minutes late manged to defused the situation. This whole event re-woke me and it took another hours reading before i finally was asleep.
