Yet another day in (sunny and hot!!) paradise

The forecast was calling for sun so we were prepared with bikinis in our backpacks when we set out this morning for our last hike. I met a girl named Nicole in my hostel this morning and she decided to come along with us for the day. We went to Riomaggiore to pick up Marissa, then trained to Corniglia to start the hike. We had to climb up 382 stars to get to the town and then start off towards Vernazza.
The hike itself was not too bad, but was the 2nd hardest, only slightly easier than the Vernazza to Monterossa leg. There were lots and lots of stairs to climb and then even more stairs to walk down.
Along the route, we met up with the threesome we had met at the train station the day before. One of the men is a CPA with a PhD in accounting. I asked him what his thesis was about and he said it was an accounting theory that has long since been forgotten (zero based budgeting, something I had never heard of). So we officially ran into everyone we had met either in the villages or on the way to the villages.
After the hike, we got lunch (pizza on focaccia bread, another new favourite) and then took the train to Monterossa where we proceeded to lay on the beach in our bikinis for 3 glorious hours. I wanted to go in the water but it was a wee bit too cold ...
ahhhhhhh .. I'm sunburnt today but it's worth it!
We then went back to Vernazza and found a restaurant on the pier and proceed to eat, drink some white Cinque Terre wine and watch the sunset over the water. Afterwards, Marissa went to her hostel and Nicole and I walked back to ours, stopping in a little bar along the way and proceeded to drink more Cinque Terre wine and watched a soccer game, in Italian. Then up to the hostel to drink a wee bit more. MMMMM it's so good and definitely worth a try if you're in the neighbourhood!
Tomorrow I say goodbye to these gorgeous towns and I'm off to Florence via Pisa!
