Yesterday was the first time I've seen someone I know since meeting up with Jason in Greece. It was so nice to see some familar faces! We met in the morning to figure out how we could spend their one full day in the area. We decided to go up to Lauterbrunnen and go hiking around the area. Once we got up there, it started raining. Not just a little, but pouring rain. So we found a restaurant, ate some Swiss food and headed back to Interlaken.
Shane's big into soccer, so we decided to blow off Interlaken and head to Bern, one of the host cities of Eurocup. The games were being played in Basel, but each host city has a 'Fan Zone' that has a huge screen tv, beer and food.
We lucked out since the Swiss team was playing so we knew the fans would be out in full force and they sure were. We wandered around the town for a bit since game 1 started at 6pm and we arrived around 3pm. The city itself is cute and has lots of fountains, very old buildings and a massive church. Oh and lots of clocks and some bears too!
At fanzone you buy a beer and get a souvenir cup. Instead of paying 5 francs all night for a beer, we bought some beer at the Coop and drank outside Fanzone with a bunch of other crazies all doing the same thing. Some people were on the ground and people were crowd surfing over them. Me and Shane did it and it was hilarious. We then split a bottle of wine three ways and went into Fanzone. It was absolutely crazy and full of people, probably 75% all wearing red. We met a bunch of Swiss people and hung out with them for the night.
At the end of the game, we rushed back to the train station to catch our 11pm train back to Interlaken which took about an hour. Once we got back to Interlaken, we went to my hostel which has a bar / club. We danced for a bit and by then we were all getting pretty tired. They went back to their hotel in a taxi after some farewells!
It was so nice to see them and to catch up on all the things I've missed in the past two months and to see some friends that I've known for more than a couple of days! :) Have a great trip you guys!
