A weekend of hiking and stuffing my face with berries in Dolly Sods Wilderness.

A feast for the eyes...and tummy...

Overlooking the Dolly Sods Wilderness area.

Dolly Sods is an amazing place in West Virginia, located inside of Monongahela National Forest.  It is a very unique place, because it is a raised plateau which has a climate and landscape similar to Northern Canada.  When you are driving up to the raised plateau that is Dolly Sods, it's as if you are suddenly transported into another country.  The landscape instantly changes to an area of rocky plains, with wind-twisted spruce trees and sphagnum bogs.  The plains are littered with huckleberry, blueberry and blackberry bushes that will ensure that you are never hungry, while cranberries can be found in the bogs.  The riverbeds are lined with azaleas, mountain laurel and rhododendron, ensuring plenty of candy for your eyes.  Sweeping vistas can be found around every bend in the trail.  This place is a treasure!
