After the exhausted day in Tiger Leaping Gorge, We decided to have a more relaxed travel in Lijiang. Walking around in the crowd with slow paces at the old town.
In Chinese, Li means beautiful and Jiang means river. The beautiful water is the Jinsha (golden sand) river. Lijiang old town at day time is pretty attractive, with all those Naxi style building and the peaceful atmosphere. We walked around and tried to find souvenir for our friends. People selling tiny strawberries in a very low price were walking around you! We bought some strawberries and found a place by the canal to have lunch.
After lunch, we went to Mu Palace.
Our next destination was Black Dragon Pool. Black Dragon Pool is at the North of the old town and is able to reach by walking from the old town. The park is famous becuase of the wonderful view of the Jade Dragon snowy mountain. On sunny day, the mirror-like pool reflect the snowy mountain but when we were there, the weather was not that good. You can explore the Naxi cluture by visiting the unique building and the Dongba museum inside the park. The park is calm and relaxing but the ticket is quite expensive, however, you can go there for free from the back door.
We went to see a show called "Mountain, river show" (It has a much better name in Chinese) at a theater near Black Dragon Pool. It is a dance show to show different cultures of ethnic minorities within Yunnan area. The show has English caption displayed at the sides. The ticket is quite expensive in mainland China standard (about $120RMB, varies from different hostels) but I like dancing, so I don't mind to pay for that high quality show! We spent the rest of our night at the old town, looked at the people who got drunk on the alleys. Although this small town is so beautiful at night, I think it is "polluted" by the civilization, that washed off the character of the town.
