Going to Turkey, cruise the Black Sea. Hop over to Athens for a quick visit, then back to Turkey for another tour, including Cappadocia.

Visit Kevin's dad in Switzerland

arrived at Kevin's dad's home
We arrived in Zurich just before 3pm, and waited for our luggage. Luckily nothing was lost and we breathed a sigh of relief and went to the car rental office. They  upgrade our compact to a MB B class car, which we never see in the USA, it's a cute little car, has a GPS navigation system. After figuring out how to set it in English, we programmed it and went on our way. From the airport to Schaffhausen was mostly a two-lane country highway, sometimes with bike lanes right alongside. Trees, green hills, lots of sunflowers, corns, and cows were the main attractions. We had to cut across a sliver of Germany on the way, and it was pretty informal border crossing, not having to get out of the car or even show our passports. But they did ask to see Kevin's passport last time he was here a couple of years ago.

We crossed the Rhine river, and near the town of Schaffhausen saw a sign to where we would be going tomorrow night, the Rhienfalls waterfall.

At Kevin's dad's home, we were early and took a walk along the neighborhood for a few minutes before his dad and step-mom came home We met Douglas the dog and chatted away for hours. Dinner was casual at home in the winter garden. Douglas is a spoiled dog now but he was a little jumpy with new people.

Dining at the Rheinfall - waterfall on the Rhine River
A restaurant at a spectacular location, the Rheinfall - a waterfall on the Rhine. The waterfall is right outside the windows of the restaurant, so you get a super view, although distant, of the waterfall. The Rheinfall is the biggest waterfall by volume in Europe. Nothing like the Niagara Falls, but still impressive.

You need reservations at the restaurant, even on a Monday night. You can also take a boat to the rock in the middle of the waterfall for a special brunch!

The ambiance of the restaurant is very good, large glass windows looking out at the river and waterfall. The food and wine was also good, not probably worth the price, but the combination with the view can not be found elsewhere.
