Konya on the way to Cappadocia
September 9, 2008
it's an even longer day today with more than 800km to be covered between Pamukkale and Cappadocia! We boarded the bus before 7am!
One of the stops we made along the way was the city of Konya, where we visited the museum of Mevlana Museum. The founder of the Mevlevi dervish sect "Whirling dervishes" Rumi developed a philosophy of spiritual union and universal love in a branch of Islam. This was the museum dedicated to him, and he is entombed here in an elaborate coffin with his turban/hat on top. The museum had displays of memorabilia and objects, and even mannequins showing how the Dervish lived and learned. But no photography was allowed inside.
