Finally! The Lighthouse!

I have wanted to go to the St. Augustine Lighthouse ever since I had seen it on the TAPS Ghost hunters television program. Yesterday was our day trip to St. Augustine and I couldn’t pass up the chance to travel to the top.
We left a little late to miss the traffic and ended up in St. Augustine just in time for lunch. Upon our arrival, we headed straight to the Castillo Monument (the fort). For $6 per adult, it wasn’t that bad of a price to not only see the oldest fort in the country but also to have the panoramic views from the top of the fort. From beyond the water way, we could see historic St. Augustine as well as the St. Augustine Lighthouse in the distance.
There are many tours to be had in St. Augustine but at $18+ per person, it was not worth our time or dollar.
So onto lunch... but where to eat? The noisy construction being performed on the bridge was enough to make you want to break out our heavy duty Wisconsin winter earmuffs. The dining places by the bridge were limited so we opted for the one place that was literally on the water; the Santa Maria Restaurant.
Oh my goodness! We sat down and automatically the seagulls flocked our table! I felt like I was in Alfred Hitchcock’s "Birds"! Luckily we were behind a thick piece of glass but the birds wanted our attention and they wanted it NOW! They knew that our waiter would give us some bread to drop through a hole next to our table in order to feed the fish below and they cared not for the fish but their own dirty selves! Sure! I have nothing for feeding the animals but how can someone sit there and eat with a thousand birds squawking and staring at you while you eat.
Afterwards, we headed straight for the lighthouse in order to salvage the trip and salvage it did! I have to laugh though because Greg kept bugging me about being able to make it to the top of the lighthouse. Heck, if I paid $8 per person, I was going to the top! It didn’t matter than I am very scared of heights... this place was very haunted and I am all into lighthouses! No matter how much he picked on me, I was not giving in.
He gave in though. Four steps onto the metal spiral stairs and he had enough. What?! He isn’t scared of heights - I am! But I am a good wife and allowed him to sit at the bottom while I ventured to the top. 219 steps up to the top and the view was so well worth it! Screw the fear of heights! I made it to the top of the St. Augustine Lighthouse!!
