Our second trip to Lebanon and Syria, this time continuing south to Jordan and Egypt. Travelling with us were Kim's parents.

Mt Nebo & Dead Sea

Memorial to Pope John Paul II's visit to Mt Nebo. This is where Moses surveyed the promised land ... looks a bit dry to me.

We hired a car to take us from Madaba to Petra, stopping along the way at the Dead Sea and Jesus' baptism site.

In the Dead Sea where one can float in the 30+% salt water and read the daily news at the same time.  The muddy base was pretty eecky and slimy.

Now for the lowlight of Jordan.  It has to be the baptism site of Jesus on the river Jordan.  The supposed spot is now dry and a new spot has been created to cater for the needs of visiting Christians (mainly fundamentalists).  The river at that spot is also disappointing and no wider than a double-bed, allegedly due to Israel using up the water upstream.  You can jump over and be in Israel (but most people give a puzzled look when that is mentioned ... they say "not Israel, that is West Bank").
