Day 11 (May 29) - Trip to Skojcan Caves, Transfer to Venice/Mestre
Our final day dawned to a windy, humid morning on the coast. Ate breakfast, loaded the luggage, and departed Piran for the hour long drive to the Skocjan Caves. As we left the coastal region it became cooler and more overcast and by the time we reached the Caves proper it was a steady downpour. And much colder. Made a dash from the parking lot to the ticket office line, and waited for our trip through the caves. An hour long trip through the Skocjan Caves (my first visit to a UNESCO World Heritage Site outside the US), displayed some amazing views in several large caverns. Watching the Reka crash below us from the walkways was an intersting site.
On exiting the caves Klara and Renata had our last lunch waiting for us in the covered (thankfully) picnic area. We enjoyed our last lunch as a group, offering celebratory congratulations for Jeff and Carrie's anniversary. Before we knew it the taxi that was to take the six of us to Venice had arrived and we were transferring our luggage from our trip van to the minivan taxi. And as quick as that we were saying our goodbyes to Klara and Renata who would be driving back to the Czech Republic as we headed to Venice.
- Nearly getting killed on the drive to Venice.
