Jade Bar was a splendid location for the first Bay Area TravBuddy Meetup. We took over the basement of the three-story establishment. A cascading 20-foot waterfall leading to a tiled koi pond set the tone for this bubbly night of frolicking fun!
I arrived a few minutes early to find Ekua (worldcitizen) had already staked out the prime space. Three out-of-town
I knew that Californians were βdifferentβ, but I was happily surprised to find out that some celebrate Christmas in January. Roger made special TravBuddy nametags for myself and Ekua and Portia gave Ekua, Roger and I a handy all-in-one power converter plug that works anywhere in the world.
Soon, the party kicked into high gear as TravBuddy after TravBuddy started to appear. Most of us were hoping that 30 friends would show. It was amazing to see the final total was over 40.
I have listed the forty-one attendees whose names I recorded. However, I saw a few others who arrived later that I failed to document.

Of course, the person everyone wanted to meet and visit with was David. He and his brother, Eric, are co-founders of this site that has grown in just over two years to about 1.3 million members.
Jade Barβs lively atmosphere and layout of low cushioned stools and couches with space to move about made it conducive to mingling. The photos. captions and writings from the variety of several blogs describing the evening tell the story; it was heartwarming to see everyone laughing and sharing smiles.
As Iβve mentioned before, I want to encourage fellow TravBuddies to attend one of the many Meetups that are springing up all over the world! Itβs wonderful to experience the moments that create lasting memories and to see the friendships that are forged from these get-togethers. Chat with ANYONE who has attended a TravBuddy party. Donβt be one of the folks that see the myriad of pictures and crazy comments describing these events and say, βWhy didnβt I go to the TravBuddy shindig?β
