Chinese Fondue!

For Day 2 we decided to do some more shopping on St.Catherines street which is home to many malls including the Centre Eaton and the Complexe Ailes de La Mobe. We spent close to 4 hours walking down St.Catherines and going through all the stores, boutiques and malls that this popular street has to offer. After racking up some nice bills on my credit card I decided it was a good idea to stop at the SAQ (liquor store) to pick up some alcohol and then head back to Fannies to make dinner. I wasn’t in the mood to spend $28 on a 12 pack of Heineken like we did the previous night at the convenience store so the SAQ seemed like the better option lol

I picked up a bottle of Bombay since I was in the mood for Gin and a couple of bottles of wine for Bene and Fannie since they’re the biggest winos I know! For dinner, Fannie prepared an awesome cook it yourself Chinese fondue setup which I thought was amazing since I had never even heard of such a thing.

Basically you have thin slices of Chinese Fondue meat which is like Beef, this can be substituted for Chicken as well but they say it’s not as good that way. Anyways, you have your typical fondue set heating soup broth and you put a slice of the beef on your skewer and leave it in the fondue pot for a minute or two until the meat is cooked and then bon appetite! We also put pieces of cheese in the middle of the meet before sticking in the fondue pot to give it a little burst of flavour. Now this is one of those meals where you sit around with your friends and talk and enjoy a length meal as it takes a while to get full eating from two skewers at the time since the pieces of meat are pretty small. It worked out great for us because at the start of the meal we weren’t sure if we wanted to go out at all or whether to just have a nice relaxing night at home. Well sure enough, as the meal went on, so did the alcohol consumption and soon we were considering checking out a small pub close by to have a few drinks after the meal.

By the time we finished eating, almost 3 hours had gone by and we had consumed 2 bottles of wine and a ½ bottle of gin so we were juiced and ready to have some fun at the bar!

They took me to a bar/Ultra lounge type place called the “Baldwin Barmacie”, I was already in the bag when we got there so I can’t really go into fine detail about the place but from what I remember it was a nice cozy place to have a drink and relax with friends, we didn’t get there till 12:30pm which I am told is when most bars/clubs start to get busy in Montreal. The staff was great and thankfully they all spoke English cus my French is still very poor! We ended up shutting the place down at 3am and jumped in a taxi back to Fannie’s apartment which thankfully was only like 5 minutes away.

Fannie and Bene
I think I managed to make it to the couch in Fannie’s apartment before passing out, we were wanting to get up at 9am the next morning to see the Bio Dome and the Olympic Stadium so we set our alarms and hoped for the best lol
