We made a stop on the hill to look down at the Jiaosi and Ilan plains but it was pretty hazy, so the view was not as good as it could be. Then we found the trailhead for Linmei Shipan Trail and went for a walk. The trail was a loop going to a small waterfall, along the trail was the creek the waterfall feeds into.
Next we picked up the photos at the photo lab and Ann took us to a restaurant for some authentic Ilan cuisine for lunch. I gave Deats the photos and said these were homemade postcards! Well, they are all posted on travbuddy now anyway. Lunch was a bigger affair than expected, because the manager had offered several free dishes because they knew Ann. I tried not to eat too much, but the the Ilan 糕渣 was really delicious and probably something we couldn't find elsewhere! (Ann, let me know if I got the name wrong!) Deats enjoyed the duck salad.
After lunch, Ann drove us to Taipei through the new Snow Mountain Tunnel. It was a 13.5 km long tunnel linking Ilan to Taipei, cutting down the commute immensely. The tunnel was an engineering miracle that experts from other countries thought was impossible to build, but the engineers in Taiwan did it anyway. With the tunnel, it is now possible to live in Ilan and work in Taipei! Ann was just a super pal and dropped us off at our perspective hotels and we arranged to meet later for dinner, in the meantime she had a business meeting to go to!
