Yes, I was living in this fabulous city, but I could never run out of things to do and see in the city so great they named it twice. Follow my adventures on a lovely summer day in the Big Apple.
Having an entire day to myself in New
York City is quite rare, so I decided to make it a
special one by doing some things that I don't normally do...
I slept in until noon, which was a much needed luxury. After a lingering
shower and getting dressed in a cute pink summer dress, I started my
little journey. I bought an iced soy chai latte at Starbucks and then spent a
couple of minutes enjoying the Battery Park view of the beautiful Lady Liberty,
before hopping on the 4 train. On the ride uptown I listened to Frank Sinatra
croon on my Ipod and began my new book, "1,000 Places to See Before You
Die." I played the game where the first page I opened the book to would be
the next place I travel, thus I'll be visiting Lisbon, Portugal
in the near future!
My first stop was The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The main exhibit was
"Hatshepsut: From Queen to Pharaoh." Hatshepsut, or Maatkane, was the
only female of Egypt
to become pharaoh. She was considered to be incredibly graceful and ruled for
20 prosperous years. She was more successful than most of the male kings. I
also had the privilege to see other well-known works of art, however, my
personal favorites were Henri Matisse's. When I look at a painting done by him,
I become full of creative inspiration. His intense colors and magical patterns
invoke so much passion within me that I almost want to run away and live the
bohemian life of an artist.
Once my passions had been stirred enough, I wandered over to Central Park. I found a lovely bench in the shade and
people watched for an hour.
To get to the closest train, I had to walk down Madison Ave., which is a great street to
shop. It happens to also have the best store in the city located on it,
Calypso. Inside, I discovered a fabulous skirt and top that I just had to own.
My last stop was in Chelsea
at the delicious vegan restaurant, Blossom. I met my dear friend Mike for
dinner, drinks, and stimulating conversation. While enjoying my dry Cabernet I
noticed that Moby was sitting several tables away. A perfect ending to the
perfect day in the Big Apple.
