Farewell to NZ!

After our stay in Akoroa, we headed back for our final few days in Christchurch.
We hadn't seen much of Christchurch on our quick overnight stopover on the way up to Kaikoura the week before, so we spent the first day wandering around, even though the rain was pretty heavy. It is a pretty big city (especially for NZ) but it still has a lot of character and we really liked it. The botanical gardens, the arts Centre (although the Art Gallery was a bit of a disappointment) and generally some of the old buildings were nice to wander around.
We took the Trans Alpine train to Greymouth (on the West Coast) for a day as well - purely just for the ride - Greymouth itself is a pretty glum place! The scenery was amazing, especially as it had snowed in the night adding snow to the peaks of the mountains.
We had so much to sort-out on our final few days that it all seemed to rush by and we were soon stood at Christchurch Airport waiting for our flight over to Sydney!!
We were very sad to leave NZ, it was an amazing two month experience and would recommend that anyone considering going there to give it as much time as they can - there is so much to see and do! Thanks again to Chris and Tracey and Alex and Alex for looking after us while we were with them and to all the lovely Kiwi people that we met on our journey. It was probably the most easy going and welcoming country that I have been to.
