Buddhas, Buddhas, more old Buddhas

Ayuthaya was the cultural center during the rise of the Thai nation dating back to 1350.  The Burmese sacked the city which then housed the king of Thailand in 1767.  The earthquake shaken leaning remains of the ancient city are the main tourist draw.  Upon arrival we realized, contrary to our original plan, that we were not going to be able to walk to all of the sites.  Damn scales on maps.  We met our ever smiling tuk-tuk (modified motorbike with three wheels and a open cabin for 3) driver at the train terminal.  He was oozing with pride as he lead us to the shiniest red tuk-tuk in the sea of available public transportation.  His four hour tour, complete with smiling commentary at the entrance of each site, brought us to every where we wanted to see.  That included some very large pyramid shaped ruins, plenty of old beheaded stone Buddhas, and a elephant farm.  The ancient sites were worth the visit but there was not much to do or see in this town after dark.
