Reminiscing

Today was a day of re-living a seemingly past life. It took me from the windswept plains of the fields surrounding this quaint little town, all the way to the heart of the very beast itself. I started with a visit to the old water tower that was the backdrop of my childhood. She was still standing strong and amazingly looking almost new still. Carter Park and the Wood County Jail house were next and proved to be quite stoic in their inanimateness. The trip took a turn for the worse there as we passed into the nightmares of every child in the region... the dreaded Bowling Green Manor house...

This place taken over by the local historical society several years ago was one an abandoned building that seemed to call to all children at a certain age with its mystery. The legend is that this place one housed several insane mental patients being cared for by, questionable, to say the least, doctors. The building no houses weapons and weird artifacts that were used in torture and murders by the past patients themselves. Once the building was rebuilt some years later the "haunting" stories began and was ever since empty. Strangely though the building itself aged much much slower then all other buildings in the region currently resulting in it being refurbished and turned into a historical museum. If on a tour you ask about the legend you will be told that they are just rumors, and after all thats just what they are.... right?

From their the hunger of my day set in so I decided to go tour the fine cuisine that BG has to offer. Leading off the chart toppers of the city we come a crossed a true diamond in the rough.... Paglia's Pizza on South Main Street. If you have ever wanted to taste an AMAZING pizza buffet that encompasses the entire Italian food gambit then be my guest and make your reservations now. Along with Paglia's you can try out Pizzanellos, but note that their pizza is superior but the selection of other foods is not. However if you decide you want a more intimate setting I would recommend the fine dinning of Tuxedo Junction or Sam B's downtown. They both offer excellent food at reasonable prices with great small town atmosphere. If your more into the dinner type experience they try out the Corner Dinner on North Main... this place has been around forever and obviously has learned how to stand the tests of time. For the lunch crowd out there you have several choices including Call of the Canyon that serves one of the best sandwiches in town, to Trotters which has a more college type bar atmosphere. Last but not least you come to my favorite restaurant... Easystreet Cafe... its to die for, let me tell you. The food runs the gambit but the burger is my favorite, its huge, juicy, delicious and leaves you with a full stomach that you want to revisit again soon.

After all this food you might want to walk off your dinner and the perfect place for that is the local record store. Almost located in the very center of the city you find a true gem called Finders. This record store has over 5million records, tapes, CDs, Videos, DVDs and a host of other multi-media items. If they don't have it you dont need it is what they will tell you because everything from Marylin Monroe's secret diary on tape to the Techno that was just put on album 3 weeks ago in Thailand... they have it. With just under half a mile of shelving and more atmosphere then a lifetime of visits can take in this is truly a great way to end your day in BG.

Now take that new album home, pop it in the player, and relax the night away in a warm bed knowing that tomorrow brings new adventure.
