Welcome to the Trek Stop!
Hubby and I were up at 4am in Virginia to make 7am flight out of Dullas to Belize city. We arrived into Belize city by 3:30pm. Clearing customs was a breeze and I was so excited to get my very first passport stamp!

We had pre-arranged with Andrew of mayawalktours.com for a shuttle to pick us up at the airport and drive us to the Trek Stop near San Ignacio in the Cayo district. An elderly gentleman was waiting for us on schedule and the drive across the country on the western highway was uneventful. Being our first international trip, we were shocked to see the housing conditions and standard of living in Belize.

There was minor confusion as the driver tried to deliver us to another jungle lodge but it was quickly straightened out and we found ourselves deposited at the Trek Stop (www.

We met John, the owner of the Trek Stop and he explained the tab/honor system for all purchase, showed us the layout of the property including the composting restrooms (outhouses), showers, and our cabin.

We put away our things in our cozy cabin, adjusted ourselves to the 80 degree F heat and then socialized with some of our fellow guests. We met a nice guy from San Francisco who was at the Trek Stop for the week and we enjoyed our first meal in Belize at the Trek Stop restaurant- stewed chicken with rice and beans, coleslaw, and plantains. Excellent food and a bargain at only $4 US pp.
